Cyberpunk 2077 may look incredible, and the next generation of consoles may be coming as soon as 2020, but you probably won’t need new hardware to play the highly anticipated RPG. In fact, CD Projekt Red is targeting a current-gen release.
“I’ve heard a number of people say that,” Quest Designer Patrick Mills told Game Informer at E3 today when asked if Cyberpunk might be a next-gen game. “The current console generation is what we’re aiming for. We are aiming for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and of course PC as well.”
Earlier this week, CD Projekt Red revealed through a hidden message that it’s been working “full speed ahead” on Cyberpunk since 2016. CD Projekt Red announced Cyberpunk all the way back in 2012 but went radio silent on Cyberpunk for more than five years after releasing a 2013 teaser trailer.
The hidden message preceded Cyberpunk’s first trailer (above) since that initial teaser. In it, CD Projekt reiterated an earlier message that Cyberpunk would release “when it’s ready.” On that front, CD Projekt Red told fans it was now “much, much closer to a release date,” but that “it’s still not the time to confirm anything.”
IGN was impressed enough by Cyberpunk 2077 to name it to our list of nominees for the Best Game of E3 2018.
